Bourne got back to winning ways in some style after the debacle at Trowbridge, with new signing Justin Bishop, playing a big part in things. The new striker made a last ditch decision to leave premier league title favourites Almondsbury Town where he felt he was not getting a fair crack of the whip. Justin is already well known at the Bourne where his good pals Ben Walker, Mark Totterdell and Daryl Saunders already play and where his former Yate Town Youth team manager Terry Northam acts as first team coach. Manager Jones, was not sure how to deploy his three vertically challenged speed merchants but never the less his decision to put Scott Cameron just behind the other two paid off handsomely. All three got on the score sheet, which hopefully augurs well for the run in. Scott notched first, in the 25th minute, when he followed up Pottsy’s penalty miss to knock in the rebound after the keeper’s fine save. There were no more goals in this half but there were a couple of chances for both teams, Jimmy Potts was unable to convert for the host’s while Tom Sheppard, in the home goal, had to be smart to turn a header around the post when Vale threatened. HT 1.0 It was time for Bishop to take centre stage as he bagged a quick fire brace with goals in the 55th and 57th minutes. He would be the first to admit that his first for the club was a fluke. His intended cross from wide on the left flew over everyone and to the delight of the home support, found the back of the net. His next was a cracker as he volleyed home from 10yds following Nicky Waters clever header back across goal from a deep Ben Walker free kick. Bourne had the bit between the teeth at this point and were pulling Vale about seemingly at will but had to wait until the 84th minute to score again. Pottsy was on the mark at last with a trademark whipped shot across the keeper into the far side netting after being set through by Cameron. Vale had had their moments and with Adam Field a constant threat to their credit kept going. Vale’s efforts were rewarded with two late consolations to make the score line more respectable. FT 4.2 Sheppard, Gordon, Nash, Walker, Mainstone, Vosper (Totterdell) Waters (Hemmings) Nash (Saunders) Bishop (2) Potts (1) Cameron (1)
