Match Report

Cheltenham Saracens 1 Winterbourne United 2

Bourne followed up Saturday's demolition of Purton with a superb performance against their title challenging rivals. Sara's must be wondering what happened after having the tables turned on them after their equally impressive win at the Rec only a couple weeks ago.

The confident hosts started quickly and enjoyed the first ten or so minutes but after that it was the visitors who were on top. The game was fast on the slippery surface with both side's quick men showing up well, Andy Sherlock for Sara's and Jimmy Potts and Scott Cameron for the Bourne. It was Bourne's two quickies that made the 40 th minute breakthrough; Pottsy eased a ball over the last defender for Cams to run on to. As Scott nodded the ball on and zoomed goal ward he rifled in with his left just as the defenders challenge knocked him off balance. HT 0.1

The half was identical to the first territory wise with Bourne pushing on looking for a second and Cheltenham trying to catch them on the break. Neither keeper had much to do despite all the frantic action going on in front of him but both were to be beaten by the final whistle. Tom Sheppard in the visitors goal was the first, a miss kicked free kick from wide on the left caught everyone out as it took two deflection before finding the net low to Tom's left. As the equaliser came with only ten minutes to go that appeared to be that. However, Ben Rhodes, on a very rare first team appearance, had other ideas. His stooping header from Scott Cameron's 85 th minute free kick angled past the stranded keeper into the corner of the net. This signalled jubilant celebrations from the visitors, as such an important win deserves. FT 1.2
